Donald Trump and Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Donald Trump and the possibility of him becoming the President of the United States is being disputed in an unaffiliated base far away from politics: Psychology and personality disorders. Lately a number of psychological experts argued that Trump has a “textbook” narcissistic personality disorder, which would be a very dangerous feature for the man on the top of the world.

Donald Trump, Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Donald Trump is found extraordinarily narcissistic because of the very obvious reason that throughout the republican debates and after, he mocks and demeans his adversaries and promotes himself by stepping on them.

To degrade persons is actually part of a cluster-B personality disorder which demonstrates a lack of remorse for other people. The method to sort it normal to assault someone verbally, psychologically, or physically is to degrade them. And Trump is doing this in all his public accounts.

Mental experts are expressing their concerns about a Trump presidency since the greatest job to serve may be at the hands of a man who only is serving himself.

Certainly, narcissism is considered as an inflated sense of self-importance, as well as a lack of concern or empathy toward others. Narcissists overcompensate for low self-esteem, through believing that they are superior to others.

A person with narcissistic personality disorder:

  • Responds to criticism with rage, humiliation or degradation
  • Takes advantage of others to achieve their own objectives
  • Inflates own importance
  • Exaggerates successes and abilities
  • Creates unlikely fantasies about self being successful, powerful, intelligent
  • Has irrational expectation of favorable treatment
  • Needs continuous attention and positive support from others
  • Disrespects the feelings of others, lacks empathy
  • Has neurotic self-interest
  • Chases mostly selfish goals
  • Never apologizes

Donald Trump, according to the above criteria, is very easy to diagnose.  For instance, in the first republican debate, he talked over his opponents and was bossy. He did anything and everything to degrade others.

Trump frequently seems has an intentionally distorted version of reality. This feature is of his necessarily coincide with Narcissistic Personality Disorder symptoms. People with Narcissistic Personality Disorder are not essentially liars, but they are extremely uncomfortable with the truth. The truth may be the prospective to feel ashamed. If all they have to demonstrate the world as a source of feeling suitable is their achievement and performance, then the risk of people seeing them be unsuccessful or squander their success is so hard to their self-esteem that they feel embarrassed. It is called the narcissistic injury. They’re painful with their own limitations. It’s not that their pattern is to lie, it’s just that they can’t handle the truth.

The main problem with this kind of personality disorder is that the victim, through distorting the reality, accepts himself as normal and never asks for help for their normally inappropriate behavior since their behavior is the normal one according to them. Most narcissists don’t look for treatment except there’s someone frightening to take something away from them. There should be some kind of significant result for him to ask for professional help. If Trump is going to be elected, then there would be no one threatening to take away from him as he will be the strongest man in the world.

In fact, help and treatment is available, but it is not the help people are used to. It’s not insight-oriented psychotherapy, since narcissists at present have perception of their own. They’re conscious of themselves but the problem is that they don’t care about the consequences of their actions. They recognize how you’d like them to act; the problem is, they’ve got a different set of guidelines. The kind of method that can have some influence is argumentative and thus they never want to be volunteer.

Another important point is the psychological state of Trump’s supporters. They are incapable or unwilling to make a link between the encounters faced by any president and the awareness and behavior of Donald Trump. Such a behavior stems from the fact that narcissists are very charming and may be great leaders. They can persuade people easily than anybody else.

Trump, as a person with narcissistic personality disorder who constantly demeans and degrades other people, is presently polling better than every other GOP candidate. This would be lead to a success for the coming elections for the Republican Party because of obsessive success feature of the disorder. But in the long term this would have horrible consequences for the United States and the world. Republican Party voters should remember Nixon and his term as an historical example for a narcissistic president.

Since idealization and distortion of truth is an easy to do feature for narcissistic person, they tend to devour idealistic political and religious foundations. They sometimes use “Christian values”, other times socialism and other times war as a means for reaching their objective. That is the reason behind the fact that most of the dictators are among the persons with narcissistic personality disorder. For instance, Hitler was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. The absence of empathy and sorrow, typical to someone with the disorder, clarifies how he could commit such horrible crimes against other human beings, deprived of ever feeling responsibility or sorrow.

Donald Trump: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. … And some, I assume, are good people.”
